Performance of Pilot Carrier Based Doppler Compensation for Cdma Land Mobile Satellite Links

چکیده
The performance of a Doppler estimation scheme for CDMA land mobile satellite systems under realistic channel conditions is studied by computer simulation. The scheme can be applied in Doppler compensation of the received signals, to aid in the code acquisition under the severe Doppler conditions offered by the satellite channel. The proposed scheme is based on a continuous-wave pilot carrier placed at the first spectral null of the CDMA user signal. The results show that Doppler estimation and compensation is possible with very high reliability, giving a probability of correct estimate >0.9995 down to 25° elevation with ±250 Hz accuracy. However, in the urban shadowed channel state the performance is poor and reliable Doppler estimation is not possible. The estimator is also able to track the variation of Doppler with time even under the worst-case Doppler rate conditions. The estimator structure is simple, requiring only an FFT with averaging as post processing. By assuming that the proposed Doppler compensation was achieved to ±250 Hz accuracy, code acquisition was demonstrated to be feasible with acceptable acquisition time by a 1dimensional serial search instead of the considerably longer 2-dimensional search that would be required in the uncompensated case. Performance of Multi-Carrier CDMA with Iterative Detection for a Doppler Shift Channel in a LEO Mobile-Satellite Communications Environment
In this paper we consider a matrix algebraic approach to derive the coded Multi-Carrier CDMA (MC-CDMA) system model for a Doppler shift channel. We derive the eeects of Doppler shift in a MC-CDMA system for low earth orbit (LEO) mobile-satellite communications and show the similarity of a MC-CDMA channel model under Doppler shift with that of the asynchronous DS-CDMA channel model. We therefore...

Time variations of the mobile radio channel cause InterCarrier Interference (ICI) to Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) and Multi-Carrier CDMA (MCCDMA) radio links. In this paper, we derive an analytical framework for the performance evaluation of a recently proposed M-ary orthogonal scheme based on differential encoding/decoding of the Walsh/Hadamard chips prior/after spreading. This technique makes feasible nonpilot-assisted detection over fast fading environments such as the land mobile satellite (LMS) channel. Our results show that differential M-ary o...

This paper presents a coded modulation scheme based on M-ary orthogonal modulation by means of Walsh–Hadamard (WH) sequences, suitable for low-earth-orbit (LEO) direct sequence/code division multiple access (DS/CDMA) satellite communication systems. Based on the IS-95 scheme, we consider Reed–Solomon (RS)-coded M-ary orthogonal modulation with error or erasures decoding, which presents good per...
